This is an attempt to get a start at documenting some things I've found are undocumented to the best of my knowledge. I plan to improve on these incrementally until they're good enough that they can be made part of the official wiki after consensus is reached.
NOTHING HERE IS OFFICIAL. USE THIS INFORMATION AT YOUR OWN PERIL.
NY-Specific
City names
Primary: smallest incorporated entity:
- City
- Village
- Town
NOT:
- Hamlet
- CDP
- Postal
Alternate: Any of the above except postal, to help with searches
Duplicate Cities
Greater XXX Area
File a City form, using the Merge option, to Merge it with city XXX
- This avoids duplicate identical cities on dropdowns in WME
- Duplicate nearby City IDs can make "Select Entire Street" not work and cause multi-select to show "No common street, No common city"
XXX (2)
If far away, File a City form, using the Rename option, to Rename it to XXX
- This keeps a separate city ID for the far away city, allowing separate polygons to be drawn
If nearby, File a City form, using the Merge option, to Merge it to XXX
- Basically the same as Greater XXX Area
No City, duplicate is far away
- Submit city form using Rename option, Renaming "No City" to XXX. Waze Staff adds one segment to enable the city name there, then the rest of the segments need to be manually set in WME.
No City, duplicate is nearby
- No form, all the segments need to be manually set in WME.
No City, city name doesn't exist
- L4 creates City, then all the segments need to be manually set in WME.
UR Workflow
- 7+7
- Forum thread about this
General
Street vs PLR
- How is this defined?
- Does Street mean it's a government-maintained road?
- What about the main road in a Mall, Office Park, or Apartment Complex?
- If these are Ok, where is the line drawn?
- If not, being able to name PLRs becomes more important (next section)
PLRs not named
- Prevents repetitive turn instructions
- Known side effect: inheritance of main road name
- What if it "feels like" a Street and has signs? Does this make it a Street? (See previous question)
Search sources
Address search order I've heard - is there more to this?
- RPP
- Nudged Waze HN
- Google HN
- Unnudged Waze HN
- Waze Interpolated HN
Place sources (Ordering?):
- Waze Places
- Foursquare
- Yelp
- YP
Fixing Ad pins
- Support Case?
- PUR?
- What about pins that don't show in WME?
GS linkage
- If duplicate gas stations, keep the oldest that was created by admin or avsus
- Any other usernames?
Elevation
- https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/Creating_and_editing_road_segments#Road_elevation is very basic
- https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/Overpasses,_Underpasses_and_Bridges just covers the mechanics of it in WME
- https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/Elevation_-_bringing_the_Seagull_to_Australia is more like what we're looking for - but I'm told it's out-of-date.
- https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/Pennsylvania/Speed_limit_mapraid#Elevation_Guidelines - Is this what we want?
- Do we elevate freeways over bridges over water?
