In order to understand the guidance provided in this article, you need to understand the notions below and their exact significance in the Mediawiki context. Therefore you should first start to ensure that you are familiar with the following definitions
Global vs. Local
The overall knowledge stored in Wazeopedia will be spread over 2 scopes
- The Global scope, containing the global guidance (rules, best practices, user manual,...), valid wherever it is considered, not subject to local variation or country-specific rules, not peculiar to some communities only.
- The Local scope, containing the guidance peculiar to a community (or a group of communities). Often a community corresponds to a country. But there is also groups of countries that have decided to converge in a same “mother” community (e.g. Benelux Community, regrouping Belgium, Netherland and Luxembourg, or LATAM regrouping the Latin American countries, etc.)
Note: The Global scope will also host the common files/images repository that could be used equally by all Wiki Instances (Global as well as Local).
Therefore Wazeopedia hosts:
- 1 Global Wiki Instance (hereafter named Global Wiki), for the Global scope
- 1 Common Wiki Instance (hereafter named Commons), for the Global file/image repository
- Several Local Wiki Instances (hereafter named Local Wikis), for each community that decides to use the Wazeopedia platform.
Local Wiki Guidance
This article does not aim to provide a detailed guidance for the Local Wikis for several reasons:
- Above all, local communities are free to decide to use or not use Wazeopedia to host their knowledge base their specific rules or their editing guidelines peculiar to their country.
- Should the local community decide to use Wazeopedia, Local Wiki content (i.e. Wiki Pages) is under the sole and entire responsibility of the local community : page creation, content translation, page update, etc.
- The local community decides alone of the layout of its wiki, the page structure (page tree), the content of each page, whether it is a local creation or a translation of a Global Wiki page or content.
