While editing in Waze is generally focused improving the mapping of populated areas, providing accurate routes to destinations in unpopulated areas can greatly increase the safety of drivers who may choose to take Waze into the wilderness. In Oregon, most of these unpopulated destinations lie within National Forests which encompass nearly 1/4 of our state.  The roads within these forests are maintained by the US Forest Service, which uses a numerical designation which acts to express both functional classification and to show the relationship between "parent" and "child" roads.
Oregon follows slightly different guidelines for naming Forest Service roads than are found in the [https://wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki/USA/Forest_Service_Roads Forest Service Roads page].  FS roads in Oregon are all assigned a 7-digit number that can be found in the [https://usfs.maps.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?layers=f3ddf325eb02467da65b08d73280ae4a Motor Vehicle Use Map] (MVUM).  To avoid excessively long names, FS road signs and many map products use a truncated version of the MVUM number which better fits Waze's needs. Low-standard route signs

Oregon follows slightly different guidelines for naming Forest Service roads than are found in the Forest Service Roads page. FS roads in Oregon are all assigned a 7-digit number that can be found in the Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM). To avoid excessively long names, FS road signs and many map products use a truncated version of the MVUM number which better fits Waze's needs. Naming should be set as follows: Primary Routes Use the first two digits of the MVUM number.

Example: FS-46 / Breitenbush Rd (MVUM #: 4600000)

Secondary Routes Use the first four digits of the MVUM number.

Example: FS-4697 (MVUM #: 4697000)
