We may need some help and some eyes on ground to document this info. Personally, I'm only going to add speed limits for those I specifically know and have seen, and not rely on other sources (except street view to pinpoint the exact location of signs). Right now the champs are leaning toward "Don't add speed limits if you aren't sure". More info here as it becomes available and Waze establishes some guidelines.

About Me

Hi! I live in San Luis Obispo County, California and have been a regular Waze user and map editor since spring 2014. I care for Waze's maps as if they were my own, seeking to constantly improve them because I love this program and want it to succeed. I love to learn continuously, work as a team, take suggestions from others, and help out newcomers. Driver safety is my biggest concern!

Area

I hope this info gives you a good idea of how commuters might use Waze in the area. Some travelers between SF and LA take the 101 through SLO county rather than I-5 in the valley, presumably to trade time for scenic beauty. We get a lot of tourists, especially from the valley (cities like Fresno and Bakersfield) and from SF and LA. They come for the beaches, wine, outdoor activity, local attractions, and more. Also the southern point of the famous "Big Sur" drive of Highway 1.

Major employers are PG&E, Cal Poly and retailers. Many college students live here, about 20k students at Cal Poly and 11k at Cuesta. Total county population is about 270,000.

North county is considered to be the region north of Atscadero and south of the Monterey County line (San Miguel). This area is home to many wineries and vineyards, both east and west of Paso Robles. To the south is Santa Barabara County, home to major destinations such as Vandenburg, Solvang and..... Santa Barbara.

SLO County to-do list:

1. Add missing house numbers to the following areas:

  • Nipomo
  • Santa Margarita
  • San Luis Obispo
  • Atascadero
  • Templeton
  • Paso Robles

2. Ensure chain and franchise places are standardized.

3. Add and update local update place info. (e.g. company website, phone number, street address, hours, etc.)

4. It looks like Waze plans to add speed limits to the client. We may need some help and some eyes on ground to document this info. Personally, I'm only going to add speed limits for those I specifically know and have seen, and not rely on other sources (except street view to pinpoint the exact location of signs). Please don't add speed limits if you are not sure what they are.. (That's what the champs are leaning toward) More info here as it becomes available and Waze establishes some guidelines.
