US, State, and County Route Naming
The following naming conventions are used in Wisconsin for US, State, and County route naming.
US Highways
US Highways (or routes) are named in Wisconsin using the standard US Road Naming guidelines. The base format of the name for these road types is:
US-12 For U.S. Route 12
US-12 S For U.S. Route 12, Southbound
US-12 BUS For U.S. Route 12 Business


State Highways (Routes)
Wisconsin state highways are named as follows:
WIS-29 For Wisconsin Route 23
WIS-29 S For Wisconsin Route 23, Southbound
Note: BUS must be completely in uppercase when used for proper TTS
County Highways
County highways[County Trunk Highway(CTH)] in Wisconsin are named with a "CH" prefix as illustrated below.
