geographical division

From geographical point of view, India is divided into 6 Zonal Councils.

  • From MHA: The Northern Zonal Council, comprising the States of Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, National Capital Territory of Delhi and Union Territory of Chandigarh;
North-Central Zonal Council
  • Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and National Capital Territory of Delhi
  • From MHA: The Central Zonal Council, comprising the States of Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh;
North-Eastern Zonal Council
  • Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura;Sikkim
  • From MHA: The North Eastern States i.e. (i) Assam (ii) Arunachal Pradesh (iii) Manipur (iv) Tripura (v) Mizoram (vi) Meghalaya and (vii) Nagaland are not included in the Zonal Councils and their special problems are looked after by the North Eastern Council, set up under the North Eastern Council Act, 1972. administrative division

The administrative division of India consist of 29 States and 7 Union Territories. These are listed in the State field in WME. Each State or Union Territory is divided into smaller administrative areas, called “Districts”. These in turn are further divided into "sub-districts".
