Help:Insert images and files to items

Wazeopedia supports inserting images and files to pages in order to make knowledge items more helpful. This guide will assist you in handling files while editing pages, but you need first to upload the files to the platform. You might want to visit the guide on uploading and managing files or the guide for using external media resources from the web.

How can i insert in image to a page in visual editing?

Click the Insert dropdown in the editor menu, and select Media:

Now search for the image you are looking for. The search will look in the file names off all the images in the file repository. If you cannot find the image in free text search please enter the exact name of the image (i.e. Railroad crossing example.JPG) and then click on the image you want to insert:

Click use this image in the upper left corner:

Now add text to the image if necessary - the caption will be displayed under the image, and the alternative text will assist search engines and visually impaired users understand what this image is about:

Finish by clicking the Insert button in the upper left corner.

How can i insert in image to a page in source editing?

If you are using the source editor, you can either add the image syntax manually or use the assisting popup:

Images are inserted with this syntax:

[[File:filename.extension|options|caption]]

Where So if you are trying to add a thumb image named Railroad crossing example.JPG you would add it like this:

[[File:Railroad crossing example.JPG|thumb|This is an image of a railroad crossing]]

Using the assisting popup

1. Click on the image icon in the source editing toolbar: File:Insert image source editing toolbar.png
2. Add the exact image name to the dialog box filename input:

3. Add other attributes (caption, size in pixels, alignment and format layout) as requested
4. Click on insert.

What are the layout option for images?

If you click twice on an image in the text or while inserting the image you can choose different layouts. in the Media setting dialog click on advanced:

You will be able to change the position, the layout and the size of the image:

There are 3 position options. If you will uncheck the "wrap text" checkbox than the image will show inline:

Layout (image type)

There are 4 image layout option:

1. thumb or thumbnail (default):
   • Rendered as a floating block (text wrapped around)
   • Rendered with caption
   • Default size is small (can be manually adjusted)
2. frame
   • Rendered as a floating block (text wrapped around)
   • Rendered with caption
   • Default size is same as file size (can be manually adjusted)
3. frameless, like thumbnail, respect user preferences for image width, but without border and no right float and caption.

Size

Size can be adjusted by number in the dialog box or visually set in the editor.

Change image position

You should be able to drag and drop the image in its right place.

How to create links to files which are not images?

If you need to add a file which is not an image to an item you might prefer to let the user download it directly without passing through the file page. In that case you should add a link to the file starting with media like this media:filename.docx.

How to handle PDF files?

PDF files can be embedded as images. just like any other image. This will display the first page as the embedded image and link to the PDF file page. In the source editor you will be able to customize the PDF view:

Linking to the PDF and not to the file page is available by adding this markup to the file embed syntax: link=media:file name.pdf like this example:

[[File:somefile.pdf|link=media:somefile.pdf]]

Showing a different page from the file

If you want the image to link directly to the file you can add this syntax to the file with the requested page number: page=4 like this (showing page 11):

[[File:somefile.pdf|page=11]]
